Youth
development - building leadership and encouraging
entrepreneurship,
-
Helping
underprivileged youth gain self esteem, confidence
and achieve their potential, and
- Extending
warmth to the elders and the disabled.
As
a responsible corporate citizen, PSA adopts a three-pronged
approach in its CSR efforts:
-
Adopted
Beyond Social Services as its charity since December
2004
and adopted the Lions Home for the Elders and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore) as its charities in January 2008 and January 2009 respectively.
-
Promoting
the PSA Volunteer Movement
- Active support of education
Beyond Social Services (Beyond) is a charity that focuses on less privileged children and youths who are prone to delinquency. Beyond's vision is that by 2025, every child and youth in Singapore, despite a disadvantaged background, has the opportunity to refuse a lifestyle of delinquency and welfare dependency. Beyond is a partner agency of MILK, which stands for Mainly I Love Kids, a charity that supports children and youth from low-income families.

Volunteering in PSA

|
PSA recognises the benefits of the nation's kindness movement. By supporting volunteerism, we all contribute towards building a more cohesive society. Where we have the means, we should give of our time and talents to where there is a need.
Last year, close
to 650 PSA staff volunteered their time and services, and donated to
the adopted charities. |
In 2010, PSA is supporting
Beyond Social Services in its educational activities throughout the
year. Our PSA volunteers will also take different groups
of Beyond children and MDAS members to visit places of interest
in Singapore and organise Children's Day and festive
activities as well as the annual PSA Charity Cookout.

They will also organise
activities and visits to the Lions Home to bring cheer
to the home residents.

The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Endowment Fund was set up in 2008 to honour the late Mr Howe Yoon Chong, a visionary Singaporean who had made significant contributions to Singapore, including the building of Singapore’s first container terminal. To honour him, PSA has set up a S$16 million endowment fund, with contributions from PSA, Temasek Holdings and NSL Ltd, to award bond-free scholarships to Singapore citizens. These scholarships aim to provide Singapore citizens from lower income families with financial assistance to upgrade themselves through attaining formal qualifications and/ or technical skills. |
