PRACTICAL PILOTAGE ATTACHMENT AND SHIPHANDLING SIMULATION TRAINING FOR SHIP MASTERS AND TRAINEE HARBOUR PILOTS

OBJECTIVE

To provide participants with:

  • an opportunity to enhance their shiphandling knowledge through observing PSA Marine Pte Ltd's pilots in the course of their pilotage duties
  • practical shiphandling skills through simulation training.

COVERAGE

SHIP BEHAVIOUR

  • Different types of vessels and their handling characteristics
  • Effects of different types of propulsion and rudders
  • Use of thrusters and different types of tugs in shiphandling
  • Anchoring and use of anchors under various conditions
  • Speed control
  • Understanding a vessel's pivot point

ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS

  • Wind and current
  • Banks, channel and shallow water
  • Interaction

SHIPHANDLING AND PILOTAGE UNDER DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Transit marks and their application in shiphandling
  • Anchoring in congested anchorages
  • Berthing and unberthing in open berths, terminals and confined basins
  • Piloting in shipyards, towing, entering and leaving docks
  • Piloting different types and sizes of vessels

FEE: $13,800 (Singapore dollars) per participant

DURATION: 11 days

NOTE

The course coverage can be tailored to meet the specific requirement of participants. Class size is restricted to 2 participants at any one time.
