My early days running ground operations gave me a solid understanding of the container terminal business. This strong foundation, together with other strategic exposures, have opened doors for me to take on global assignments and contribute to our business transformation and growth. Today, as Chief Operating Officer at Indonesia’s New Priok Container Terminal 1, I’m contributing to PSA’s Node to Network strategy by growing NPCT1’s business capabilities. Each day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and make a difference. The bespoke nature of the GMAP development roadmap ensures that no two MA’s journeys are the same!
GMAP has offered me diverse opportunities across various functions and roles. From my foundational years in Operations and Finance to impactful stints in the Southeast Asia Office and Group CEO’s Office, these rotations and opportunities to work closely with senior leaders have deepened my understanding of the business and its intricacies. I’m constantly challenged to step out of my comfort zone to broaden my horizons, and these experiences have shaped me into a more well-rounded professional.
A highlight of my GMAP journey has been the incredible opportunity to help shape Tuas Port. I’m proud to be part of a project that will define Singapore’s future and leave a legacy in the global maritime industry. In its early stages, I was involved in determining how the world’s largest automated container terminal would take shape – from operational concepts to design and layout decisions. Today, I leverage this knowledge to manage key customers at Tuas Port, bridging technical design with operational realities, all while sharpening my stakeholder management skills!
As a young Engineering MA, I was guided to lead a small team managing cranes and equipment at Tanjong Pagar Terminal. This experience paved the way for me to take on larger leadership roles, and I even had the opportunity to head a cross-functional Operations and Engineering team in Pasir Panjang Terminal 1. Today, I lead the Engineering Services cluster of over 200 staff, ensuring we deliver reliable infrastructure—electrical, digital systems, and inventory—that supports our frontline operations. The invaluable mentorship I received throughout my career inspires me to pay it forward by mentoring others and nurturing happy, motivated, and high-performing teams.
My journey as an IT MA has provided diverse exposure across terminal operations, digital product development, and IT governance, along with valuable global opportunities. From my early attachment in Antwerp, where I gained insight into European port operations, to my year-long stint running the IT department at a business unit in Thailand, these experiences have been instrumental in shaping my outlook and leadership abilities. They’ve deepened my understanding of diverse cargo flows and multimodal transport strategies, and now, I’m excited to leverage these insights to drive digital solutions that make a meaningful impact in Singapore and beyond!
My internship with the Corporate Communications team gave me the autonomy to explore new ideas and bring them to life, a truly invaluable experience as a student. It also offered me a glimpse into this dynamic industry and the uniquely collaborative PSA culture, which inspired me to apply for GMAP. Even now, it’s the tight-knit community and the shared sense of purpose with my colleagues, teammates and fellow MAs that continue to drive me every day!
